William G. Thomas III will share stories from his award-winning book A Question of Freedom: The Families Who Challenged Slavery from the Nation's Founding to the Civil War. Meet Ann Joice and the Mahoney's, enslaved families who fought for their freedom in the Prince George's County Court. Hear how these cases challenged slaveholders and the institution of slavery itself with the help of lawyers like William Pinkney and Francis Scott Key.
