In The Footsteps of Freedom Tour

Thursday, September 19, 2019

Join us as we relive African-American history in the heart of the nation’s capital on our “In the Footsteps of Freedom Tour” of Washington, D.C.

Your journey begins at the White House, where you will embark on a self-guided tour, and discover the place our “First Families” called home for more than two centuries. Just outside you’ll find Lafayette Square Park and learn stories of the Underground Railroad, the secret network that used the White House as a staging point for freedom seekers heading to Canada. Your final stop will be the National Museum of African-American History and Culture on the Mall. Experience four centuries of struggle and triumph, from the first enslaved people to arrive on our shores in 1619, to the election of the first African-American President in the 21st century.

For lunch (included), you’ll savor award-winning delicacies at the museum’s Sweet Home Cafe and discover flavors inspired by America’s African foodway traditions.
