Holiday Happenings: Celebrate the Best of the Season with Fun for All Ages

 

Riverdale, MD – We’ve rounded up the best of the best from The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County, that will help to make the season bright! “Creating memories and cherishing every moment during the holidays is always a treat,” says M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation Director, Bill Tyler. “From enjoying timeless classics like a Christmas Carol, trying new experiences like Santa Fly-in or, even participating in the Home Decorating Contest, sharing special times with loved ones is part of the joy of the season.”

A Christmas Carol

Step back in time to Victorian London for a magical tale of ghosts, a change of heart, and the true meaning of the holidays in Charles Dicken’s – A Christmas Carol. This timeless classic has been adapted by Christopher Dwyer into an audio drama. Listen in and be charmed by a much-loved holiday story vividly brought to life. Our FREE, family-friendly presentation, filled with music, captures the joy and delight of the season.

Holiday Home Decorating Contest

The Department is searching for the most festive homes in Prince George’s County this holiday season. Show your holiday spirit by decorating your home and entering our first annual Holiday Home Decorating Contest. Message us your photos on Facebook for a chance to win a visa gift card and          M-NCPPC prize bag. The photo with the most likes and shares wins. Winners will be announced on Monday, December 21.

Santa Fly-In

Santa is flying into the College Park Airport! Grab the kids and join us for a fun holiday live-streamed event. The live stream will be FREE to view on our Facebook page. From the comfort of your home, watch Santa fly into the College Park Airport at 10:30 am. Afterwards, we invite you to come to the College Park Aviation Museum to pick up your craft kit and take a picture with Santa, starting at 12 p.m.

Gingerbread House Contest and Show

Join us for a special edition of this popular program and make this year’s Gingerbread Show one to savor. Darnall’s Chance House Museum will host the 21st Annual Gingerbread House Contest & Show. This year the show and viewer voting will be online. Come be a part of this delicious 21-year tradition!

Celebrate Africa Rewind

The Department invites you to its virtual encore presentation of the third annual Celebrate Africa Festival. The festival premiered in late September and featured performances by top African artists in the DMV. The encore presentation highlights music and storytelling while encouraging viewers to reflect on themes of unity, solidarity, and purpose.

Annual Kwanzaa Celebration

Join us for a virtual Kwanzaa celebration with Rollingcrest-Chillum Community Center: A Celebration of Family, Community, and Culture. Enjoy performances by the Malcolm X drummers and dancers. Register with code RCCC-SPEC-GA-20201228.
