YOUTH THEATRE DIRECTOR
Experienced Youth Theater Director needed for the Junior Academy for the Performing Arts, a musical theatre intensive program for kids ages 8 to 15. The theatre director will be the acting instructor, performance director, lead the creative team, and assist the producer with the overall management of the program. The ideal candidate has a desire to work with kids of all experiences, backgrounds, and talents. Looking for candidates who are dedicated and can grow and build program over several seasons.
Rehearsals are at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, University of Maryland. Current program runs on Saturdays from 9 am until 1 pm from February 8, 2020 through May 16, 2020. Additional Sunday rehearsals and longer Saturday rehearsals are added closer to final performance. Final show date is Sunday, May 17. Director will assist with pre-planning and production meetings prior to rehearsal start date.
Theatre Director Duties:
- Plan, organize, and implement a final Broadway- style performance
-Responsible for high-quality staging of the production
-Lead the creative team with an overall artistic interpretation
-Create rehearsal schedules
-Teach acting technique as it pertains to musical theatre
- Communicate with parents/guardians and producer to ensure a safe, secure and customer friendly environment
Minimum Qualifications:
Ideal candidate will have at least 1 year in theatre instruction or have a degree in theater, arts education or equivalent field. Prior directing experience is preferred.
Salary: $18-$30/hour, based on experience
