Tucker Road Ice Rink Updates Entry #14

The project is proceeding with the Design Development Phase of the Tucker Road Ice Rink. Recent
activities have concentrated on obtaining sufficient funding to avoid value engineering of the current
schematic design. In June, the Prince George’s County Council approved supplemental funding to meet
the project’s needs. As a result, the project now has the $27.6M budget authority for the current
design. Among the next steps for the Design Development Phase are the following:

  • Develop the exterior skin of the proposed structure to ensure an appealing athletic
    aesthetic.
  • Refine the lobby area inside the building to enhance sightlines to ensure maximum
visibility of the spaces for patron comfort and experience.
  • Configure the café area to enhance food service access while maximizing seating and
    encouraging user interaction.
  • Design the entry plaza area to encourage a more pleasing user experience

A major milestone achieved in this reporting period is the completion of the Mandatory Referral
process. This means that site permitting can resume. The Construction Manager at Risk, Forrester
Construction, is working closely with the Architect and Engineers to manage the project’s costs and
schedule. The design team is managing the permit process. Once the Design Phase is completed and
site-grading permits issued, the Construction Phase can begin. We estimate that the Construction Phase
will get underway toward the latter part of this year beginning with the demolition of the existing
facility.

Forrester Construction will develop a new project schedule. Forrester is refining the project
schedule, based on recent efforts. Upcoming reports will include the new project schedule.
