About the Program
The Department of Parks and Recreation has issued a Park Directive (PDF) that establishes a 10-month Pilot Program allowing certain e-bikes and e-scooters on select park trails in the Anacostia Tributaries Trail System. The pilot program will enable the Department of Parks and Recreation to study the impact of allowing low-powered motorized vehicles on the paved bicycle and pedestrian trails.
The Park Directive (PDF) has been extended to February 28, 2021.
The pilot program allows for e-bikes and e-scooters whether they are personally- owned or provided by commercial bike-share companies. VeoRide, is a commercial bike-share service with electric vehicles now operating in the greater College Park/University of Maryland area.
Montgomery County is also conducting a similar pilot program on the Sligo Creek, Northwest Branch, Long Branch, Rock Creek, and Matthew Henson trails.
The following maps show where the pilot program provides access and a few areas where e-bike and e-scooter use is NOT permitted.
