A Question of Freedom: The Freedom Suits from Prince George's County

Join Dr. William G. Thomas III, author and history professor from University of Nebraska-Lincoln, to discuss his new book, A Question of Freedom: The Families Who Challenged Slavery from the Nation’s Founding to the Civil War (Released in November 2020). Dr. Thomas tells an intensely human story of the enslaved families including the Butlers and Queens. The Butler family was held in bondage at Marietta in Prince George’s County. Dr. Thomas will describe the Butler family’s journey to freedom. This talk is co-sponsored by the Prince Georges County Historical Society.
