Project Summary:  Military Installation Overlay Zoning Map Amendment


On November 15, 2016, the District Council approved the Military Installation Overlay Zoning Map Amendment (MIOZMA) with the adoption of CR-97-2016 (PDF).

On September 20, 2016, the County Council, passed CR-70-2016 (PDF), directing an additional public hearing be scheduled in order to receive further public comment and written testimony on 5 requested zoning changes within the proposed Military Installation Overlay (M-I-O) Zone.

These rezoning requests (PDF) were submitted as testimony at the Joint Public Hearing for the Military Installation Overlay Zoning Map Amendment, which was endorsed by the Prince George's County Planning Board of the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission on May 19, 2016.

The District Council directed the Planning Board to prepare the Proposed Military Installation Overlay Zoning Map Amendment (MIOZMA) on January 19, 2016 through CR-5-2016 (PDF).

This process will apply the Military Installation Overlay (M-I-O) Zone to properties within the defined Impact Area for Joint Base Andrews. 

The Planning Board granted permission to release the Technical Staff Report for public inspection on February 18, 2016 (at January 12, 2004 on timeline).

On November 10, 2015, the District Council adopted CR-42-2015 (PDF) creating the Military Installation Overlay Zone. The MIOZ provides use restrictions, development regulations and permitting requirements in the vicinity of Joint Base Andrews.
